Each individual will write a 3 to 5 page evaluative essay on problems connected with using web sites and the INTERNET for global and local collaboration. Due the last day of class, August 1. This essay must begin with a one paragraph abstract.
This essay must be based on an exploration of at least 10 web sites anywhere at all, at least three of which must be what the writer considers to offer good examples of visitor communication and collaboration support. You may discuss a counter example, of course, but please identify a couple excellent sites and elaborate on exactly why you think they offer a good model for using the web and INTERNET collaboratively. One of the examples may be a site using regular email, but be specific about why the way the site in question uses email is a good model. At least one site must use more than email and do so in a way which the writer considers to be excellent or at least suggestive of excellence. How does the site expect or allow visitors to communicate with them and with each other? Is it realistic? Does the site indicate whether it has worked.
In discussing the model sites you fasten upon, make clear to the reader why the communication uses featured or preferred in the web site are particularly effective for that site, given its audience, content focus, and primary objectives. Your essay should list the ten sites you explored, along with their URL on the web. This will involve browsing, so allow yourself time to do so. Finally, you should specify how the models you identify could be used in the global curriculum site, or if they will not work there, why not. Those who identify good models that will work in that context may have their names added to the credits page for the site.
Due date: August 1 class meeting.
