I am working at the Bahá'í International Community as Network Administrator. The Bahá'í International Community is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which represents the world-wide membership of the Bahá'í Faith (approx. six million) to the United Nations. Our work primarily falls into three areas: human rights, the advancement of women, the environment. The office is located just across from the United Nations's park at 866 United Nations Plaza -- we are always open for visitors. We are on the corner of 48th and 1st Avenue (a map).
My work entails running a Novell network for fifty users -- ten of whom are in an auxiliary office in Geneva, Switzerland. Though the office works primarily with word processing, we are doing a number of interesting things with fax servers and e-mail list servers.
We are currently in the process of building a number of Web pages. One Web site will display our newsletter, "One Country," in English, French, German, and Chinese. A second site will carry the official statements our office has made to the United Nations since 1947 (English, French, Spanish). A third site is devoted to special projects, like the current UN50 celebration, the Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing), and the recent Habitat II for Humanity in Istanbul.
Before coming to New York, I taught in the University of East Asia (Macau) and also ran a computer training center for the Macau government.
Educationally, I finished my Ed.D in International Education at Teachers College two years ago. Before that, I did a Masters in Arts in Teaching (high school level history) and a Masters in History -- both at Boston College.
This is an assortment of things that I found interesting and perhaps you will too. Stay tuned
