I am working at the Bahá'í International Community as Network Administrator. The Bahá'í International Community is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which represents the world-wide membership of the Bahá'í Faith (approx. six million) to the United Nations. Our work primarily falls into three areas: human rights, the advancement of women, the environment. The office is located just across from the United Nations at 866 United Nations Plaza -- we are always open for visitors.
My work entails running a Novell network for fifty users -- ten of whom are in an auxiliary office in Geneva. Though the office works primarily with word processing, we are doing a number of interesting things with fax servers and e-mail list servers.
We are currently in the process of building a number of Web pages. One Web site will display our newsletter, "One Country," in English, French, German, and Chinese. A second site will carry the official statements our office has made to the United Nations since 1947 (English, French, Spanish). A third site is devoted to special projects, like the current UN50 celebration and the recent Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing).
Before coming to New York, I taught in the University of East Asia (Macau) and also ran a computer training center for the Macau government.
Educationally, I finished my Ed.D in International Education at Teachers College two years ago. Before that, I did a Masters in Arts in Teaching (high school level history) and a Masters in History -- both at Boston College.
