CTELL
Case Technologies to Enhance Literacy Learning (CTELL) is a $5.5 million dollar, NSF-funded grant entering its fifth year in studying how online, multimedia cases can be used to improve preservice teacher education. This study, which spans four campuses in the United States, collects data on the uses of the cases in preservice literacy education courses and their impact on new classroom teachers. The CTELL project provides excellent opportunities for student interns to become intimately familiar with a large-scale research project on the impact of technology in higher education. We are seeking a student intern to help with the collection and analysis of a large body of data, as well as writing up findings for a variety of purposes. Candidates should be interested in research design, data collection, and analysis and have excellent spoken and written communication skills. Through working with the CTELL project, student interns will get a chance to experience research from the inside and have an impact on the use and development of future technologies.

Curriculum Development Intern
In today¡¦s high-tech, global society, no student should have
to learn from a dated textbook alone. Imagine a day when teachers
consider it a matter of course to use the Internet and technology
tools to connect their students to real people, accomplishing
real journeys, in the real world. This is RTW¡¦s premise, and
mandate for growth. Our vision is that one day all schools,
in all communities, will have the resources, training, and
research-based evidence they need to incorporate ¡§connected
learning¡¨ ¡V i.e., interaction with online personalities and
the opportunity to drive the course of Internet-based journeys
¡V into the curriculum as an essential teaching tool.
In the fall of 2004, Reach the World will launch its next
adventure in education: the third around-the-world Voyage
of Makulu, a 43-foot sailboat. On board ship, a crew of five
educators will use the Internet to take students and teachers
on an odyssey across 30,000 ocean miles and into more than
40 countries. What better way for students to learn about
world cultures and environments than to follow a real expedition
- and better yet, interact with real adventurers through intriguing,
online dialog?

Social-Emotional Learning and/or
Gender and Technology
Reasearch Intern
Dr. Robin Stern invites interns to work with her on projects
relating to Digital Technologies and Social-Emotional Learning
as well as Gender and Technology. As an intern, you will work
in collaboration with Robin on research and writing in relation
to the aforementioned subjects. The specific projects have
the possibility of being tailored to your specific interests.
Regular activities will include gathering research materials,
writing and editing of texts, and working with people relating
to the projects. The activities performed by the intern may
vary according to the intern. s experience as well as the
needs for the period of the internship.
The internship can be taken for 2 credits (10 hours), and
there is the possibility for continuation of work after the
semester for pay. The hours are flexible and will be agreed
upon between Robin and the intern
The Gottesman Libraries
International Technology Intern
The Gottesman Libraries offers internship
opportunities in all areas for students with various interests
in information systems and technology in education. Students
can work in one area or combine areas. Units of the library
with relevant internship possibilities include:
Distance Learning - Assist in the design
and development of online courses, workshops, professional
development programs, and multimedia projects.
Digital Content Development - Develop projects
to transform library print materials into digital collections.
Technical Services - Learn about metadata
standards and applications with the library cataloging team.
Ed Lab - Assist in the creation of new
digital tools for teaching and research.
The library units utilize a variety of platforms and technologies.
Useful skills include database design, video and audio production,
game design, and instructional design.
The internship can be done on a voluntary basis or, with
the involvement of a faculty member, can be taken for 1-3
credits (5-15 hours).
Other benefits may follow with experience.
