At an earlier age Emile was deliberatley kept ignorant of social skills, but now he must learn them in order to take his place in the adult world. And it will be the careful cultivation of Emile's imagination of his future wife Sophie (see para1151 and 1152 below) that will prepare him to resist society's corrupting temptations.
