Emile will falle in love with an image, just as Sophie will fall in love with the imagined Telemachus. Since love always contains an element of illuson, the tutor will build on the illusory aspects of love to protect Emile from unwise relationships. As Rousseau explains in the next paragraph, however, the image of Sophie will not be so perfect that it could not correspond to a real person.
