Since the two sexes have very different roles in reproduction and social life, they must be educated very differently. Again Rousseau is setting himself at odds with contemporaries such as Mme. Dupin and later feminists such as Mary Wollstonecraft who argued in Chapter XII of her Vindication (see esp. para32 ff) that boys and girls should be given essentially the same educational opportunities.
