La Fontaine
The Fables of La Fontaine were commonly used for the moral education of young children in the 18th century, although others besides Rousseau (notably La Condamine) were critical of the practice. Rousseau's critique may be aimed at Locke, who had recommended (in his Thoughts Concerning Education) the reading of Aesop's Fables to young children.
