The distinction between what is natural and what is artificial between the predispositions we are born with and the behaviors that we are taught, between that which exists at some primitive origins and that which has been created by man -- is a guiding theme throughout Rousseau's writings. Are such distinctions valid, or are they themselves socially constructed?
