Socrates or Cato
If Emile's education succeeds, he will be content with his place in life and will not be tempted to leave it or to become a stranger to himself. As was mentioned in para391_note1 above, Rousseau wrote an unpublished political fragment comparing Socrates and Cato sometime between 1751 and 1754.
